The two-storied Attanagoda Tampita Viharaya (Aththanagoda Tampita Viharaya) lies close to the more popular Ambulugala Rajamaha Viharaya. Traveling about 5km from Kegalle towards Kandy up to Molagoda and taking a right turn and traveling a further 5km on the by-roads will bring you the ancient Attanagoda Rajamaha Viharaya.
The Tampita Viharaya at the temple is large and is built as a two-storied building. Tampita Vihara was a popular architectural feature during the Kandyan kingdom where the temple was built on a platform that was held on an array of pillars, mostly stone.
The Tampita Viharaya at Attanagoda Viharaya lies on the upper floor of the structure. The building does not have a circumambulating path generally found in such structures. The inner image house is 6.93 meters long and 3.66 meters wide. This structure was declared as a protected archaeological site on 28 January 1977.
