Gondiwela Purana Tampita Viharaya

Gondiwala Purana Tampita Viharaya is reachable from Kegalle – Mawanella road. Passing Uthuwankana junction and then the Uthuwankana Catholic Church take the left turn to Weganthale road from the Kondeniya Junction and travel about 1 km to reach the temple.

A Tampita Viharaya is a structure built on a wooden platform that rests on a number of stone stumps usually 3-4 feet tall. The roof is held by a structure built of timber and the walls are generally made of wattle and daub. The walls inside the chamber are more or less always covered in paintings drawn mainly in Kandyan style.

The Tampita Viharaya at Gondiwala is built on six granite pillars about 8 feet tall. The wooden platform is built on large timber beams laid across the granite pillars. The chamber of the Tampita Viharaya is 10 feet long. A wooden stairway leads to the entrance of the temple. This design is somewhat similar to the Tampita Viharaya at Ambulugala.

It was also reported that this Tampita Viharaya has been destroyed.
