Bibile Kokunnewa Purana Viharaya is an ancient temple in the Monaragala district with a Tampita Viharaya built during the Kandyan era. This temple lies on the Bibile – Inginiyagala road, just 6.5 km off Bibile town.
Tampita Viharaya is a structure built on a wooden platform that rests on a number of stone stumps usually 3-4 feet tall. The roof is held by a structure built of timber and the walls are generally made of wattle and daub.
The Tampita Viharaya at Kokunnewa Purana Viharaya was declared a protected archaeological site by the gazette dated 23rd January 2009 and is described as follows ;
“The tempitta Vihara belonging to the Kokunnewa Vihare premises situated in the village of Kokunnewa in the Divisional Secretary’s Division of Bibile, in the Moneragala District, Uva Province”
